I am going to start out by saying that I am going to be using this platform until I can either switch completely from BlueHost or transfer my domain, that I own, to my Wix.com account. I'm a blogger and I have been without my blog for the better part of this month. I love blogging. With that being said I am going to continue on.
I have discovered virtual races. It is not a new thing at all but has become popular in 2020. I was actually reading one of the issues of the Prevention magazine and it was talking about virtual races. I am years behind on the issues due to needing to shut my brain off because of stress of what was going on in 2020 and everybody being home that I stopped reading the magazines and my subscription got cancelled. I will restart my subscription again once I am done with the stack that I have in the bathroom. I wanted to know if there was going to be one soon or if they were going to continue with the virtual races. The website I typed in didn't work so I googled the Prevention race for last year. I didn't find anything for Prevention but I did find other virtual races. I found two that I was interested in. One is the Virtual Run Events and the other is Yes.Fit. I signed up for the emails for the Virtual Run Events and created an account with Yes.Fit. In one of the emails I had gotten a one day only 50% off discount code from Virtual Run Events and I was curious to see if it would work on the mystery box on the website and it did. It was already discounted and there were 12 bibs and medals. I was excited to not only be able to order it and to be able to get it. I have continued to get other virtual races from Virtual Run Events. I have used a few discount codes to save even more money. I ordered 6 more $3 clearance races today and used a discount code and got $4.50 off. Plus I ordered 3 for 2024 already using the code that is good for all 2024 races. I saved 35% off 2 of the races and 50% off of the one race. I ordered on race from Yes.Fit that I am currently working on. With Yes.Fit there's no bibs just medals and coins and shirts.
With all of the medals and bibs that I have in my bedroom I have dubbed 2024 the year of the virtual races. I have quite a few that I want to complete.
What I like about virtual races is that you can go at your own pace and there's a variety of ways you can complete each race and you can pick your distance. You can walk around town, hike, bike, use the rowing machine or treadmill. As far as the distances, at least with Virtual Run Events, the majority of the races you can pick 1 mile, 5K, 10K, 13.1 miles (half marathon) or 26.2 miles (full marathon). On Yes.Fit the races have a certain amount of miles to walk or run (or bike or row) to complete the race. With Virtual Run Events they send you the medals and bibs before you complete the race. With Yes.Fit they send you the medal after you complete the race. I don't know what I like better. With Yes.Fit you sync your Fitbit or apple watch on the website or app. With Virtual Run Events I have a tracker I make using a dotted A5 page for a 6 ring binder that I get at Hobby Lobby. Once I am done with the race I hang the medal up on a medal holder and put the bib, if there is one, in a sheet protector and put it with the tracker. You can also work on more than one race at a time.
I am working on a few races right now. I am working on Coral Reef Adventures, which is 60 miles, with Yes.Fit. I have 3 hanging up from Virtual Run Events. One is part of the Zodiac series and since I'm a Libra that's the one I am doing. That race has 1 mile, 5K, 10K, 13.1 miles, 26.2 miles, 50K, 50 miles, 100K and 100 miles. I have decided that I am going to row 100 miles to complete the race. The other race I am doing is the 2023 Year of the Rabbit race. The distances for that is 2.023 miles, 20.23 miles, and 202.3 miles. I have decided to do the 202.3 miles and combine all of the races together to get the miles for that. The other race I am doing is the 2022 King of the Kuiper Belt Pluto race. That race has the option of 1 mile, 5K, 10K, 13.1 miles, and 26.2 miles. I have decided to do 26.2 miles. I have finished the 2019 Full Moon race that has 1 mile, 5K, 10K, 13.1 miles, 26.2 miles options. I decided to do 26.2 miles. I have a 2023 Lucky Day virtual race which is a 5K and since it's St Patrick's Day themed they set it at 3.17 miles. I order for 2024 the Mission to the Moon event which starts on January 1st and ends December 31st. You can pick anywhere from 500 to 5,000 miles. Looking back at last year's miles that I have done and what I have done this year I have decided to aim for 1,500 miles which puts me at more than what I have done last year and so far this year. I almost picked 2,024 miles but that is double of what I have done and I don't know if I am physically able to complete that many miles. I don't want to set myself up for failure and disappointment. In the future if I decide to do another year long event like this I may aim a little bit higher. It'll all be determined by how well I do in the current and previous years and if I feel like I am capable of doing higher. The other two that I order are the 2024 Year of the Dragon which is like the 2023 Year of the Rabbit but 2.024 miles, 20.24 miles or 202.4 miles and the 2024 Leap Year race which is like the Lucky Day race but 2.29 miles instead of 3.17 miles.
The main goal of the virtual races is to get up and get moving. Use my code Zo5Zamhe on Yes.Fit to save $5 on your first race. For the Mission on the Moon even for 2024 click on the link below and use code EARLY40 to save 40% off of the event. If you do sign up for the event you'll get 35% off of all 2024 and by using the link you'll also be helping myself as well. It's my referral link that was given to me. I will get money back from everybody who goes thru my referral link. With all of the virtual races that I currently have plus the ones that I haven't gotten yet I am dubbing 2024 the year of the races. I am going to walk as many races as I can. In the colder months I am going to use the rowing machine to stay warm on races. The races that have just the one distance, like the Lucky Day race and the Leap Year race, I am gong to do in one shot. My goal is to get faster with each race. It is so exciting to complete a race and to open up the medal and to see it hanging. It keeps me motivated. Once I get the new races I will go live on my YouTube channel which is called Before the Fit, https://youtube.com/@BeforeTheFit?si=OM6bPOGp-dNLRN_e I do also have a vlogging channel which is BeforeTheFit_Vlogs, https://youtube.com/@BeforeTheFIt_Vlogs?si=pQwH8DsRvg3BJDB- I posted the lings for both channels. I have a goal of reaching 500 subscribers by the end of this year.
