Spring officially started on Wednesday. I have noticed signs of spring for a few weeks now. I live in the south so it's bound to happen. It started with the flowers on the trees and there are more and more leaves on the trees now. YAY!! It's getting greener and warmer. It's not time yet to plant the garden yet. I am keeping an eye out on the weather. As soon as it stops being in the 30s at night it's time to plant.
This year I am not planting broccoli, watermelon radishes, and carrots. I didn't have any luck with the broccoli last year. Maybe I'll try that in the fall. Nobody at my house likes radishes. Wyatt didn't eat the carrots last year. With the extra space I am going to focus on planting tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, peppers and okra in the garden beds and the herbs in the pots like in the past. I am going to get some bags of dirt for the garden beds and the pots. The only herb right now I don't need to replace is the thyme because it's growing back. YAY!! I may try to grow dill this year too. I'll find some recipes and use the dill to make pickles with the cucumbers. The only plants that are going to share a section are the yellow squash and zucchini but the other veggies are going to get their own sections. I would love to have more green beans so we can freeze some. I would also love for my tomatoes to grow enough to can. I would also like to have enough cucumbers to make pickles out of. Hopefully after Easter I can start planting.
The boys are going to be going on spring break on Thursday. There's no bad weather between now and then so they will get Thursday off. It's a scheduled weather makeup day. Friday they are off because of Good Friday. Elijah has 4 days of credit recovery on April 1-4 so me and Wyatt get some one on one time those days. Part of me is looking forward to not having to get the kids up at 6am and if I do get up at that time it'll be for some me time that I won't get while the kids are off. I am looking forward to possibly sleeping in.
Wyatt has completed his first fun run of the year. It was at the airport. He got a shirt and a bib. Next year he'll be too old for the fun run and will be old enough for the 5K and he wants me to complete the 5K with him. I have a year to get ready for the 5K. He has 2 more that he is signed up for and as soon as I get the next child support check I'll sign him up for on I found that is at the minor league baseball field in June. It's in the evening and I think there's a game afterwards. I don't know if Wyatt will get tickets for that or not. The fun run for that one is a mile long. I don't know how long the other two that he is already signed up for are. I want to say a mile but I could be wrong. I thought the one at the airport was a mile but it was only a lap around the one part of the runway. Next year he'll be able to do the 5K. My goal is to be able to run a 5K by Thanksgiving this year.
Over spring break and summer vacation I am not going to be stressing myself out on the days I cannot get up early enough to get my rowing machine out to use it. Wyatt doesn't always sleep in like Elijah does. I'll go on walks and hikes while the kids are home.
I have completed 5 races on the rowing machine! I completed the Groundhog Day, Leap Year, Lucky Day, Pi Day and Shamrock and Roll. The Shamrock and Roll was my quickest 5K on the rowing machine. The next race I am going to complete is the May 4th race which is a 4 mile race. I saved that one for last because it's the longest race. I am going to work on that one day this upcoming week while the kids are in school. Once the kids go back to school I will complete more 5Ks on the rowing machine. The goal is to do one a week until the kids are done for the school year and then once they start back up in July continue to do 5Ks and maybe some 10Ks as I get better. I will continue to walk the full marathons one mile at a time. The idea is to work thru as many of the older races that I have on the rowing machines as 5Ks and 10Ks until they are completed and use the newer races as full marathons. I have completed 2 full marathons and the 2023 Year of the Rabbit race. I want to get back into weight lifting as well.
