Same Program, Different Coach

Yesterday I was talking to another social media coach and I was also watching a video about the things that hindered the one person’s weight loss journey. The video is by Nikki Gets Fit. You can find her on Instagram and Facebook as well as YouTube. Both of those things have got me thinking about my own weight loss journey.

In the video she mentioned that she’s the one that has to do the work and figure out what is going to work for her and that nobody is going to save her and that she needed to figure out why she was overweight. She also mentioned that some of the diet programs and pills were not the answer. What helps her the most is using Weight Watchers. That has been around since forever and it has helped a lot of people.

The social media coach has 2 program options. The first one has 2 different supplement options. Both of which I have never heard of but that’s not really anything new. I don’t know the price point of that because I’m not interested in taking supplements. The second option is thru diet and exercise which is more my style and what I believe in. It’s $157 for a 4 week program which isn’t terrible but it might not be worth the money if a plan is not involved and I have to come up with the exercise and meal plans. The training focus would be 4-6 days a week of weight training and 3-4 days of cardio. There are a couple of options that you can do with that amount. Option 1 would be to alternate 4 days of weight training with 3 days of cardio and exercise 7 days a week. Option 2 would be 4 days of each where you do cardio and weight training the same day with days off, like workout Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and rest Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday or some other combination. The nutrition focuses on a slight calorie deficit of 10-15% of maintenance calories, high protein of 1g-1.2g per pound of lean body mass and moderate carbs and healthy fats. It sounds like some diet and exercise programs that I have already purchased and have printed out. YouTube is also a free option that has a billion videos on diet and exercise. There are plenty of websites at my disposal that I can get calories and macros from that are free.

It brings me back to the realization that I’ve come to that I am going to have to rely on myself if I am going to lose weight. There are a ton of meal prep videos on YouTube I can watch. There are also plenty of workout videos on YouTube. I have my fitness education and past experience of losing weight that I can fall back on. I’ll have to tweak my past experience as I was in my 20s and early 30s at the time and what worked then doesn’t work now that I am months away from being 40. I also have other books that I have bought throughout the years. I don’t need to spend $157 on a diet and exercise program. I just have to sit down and figure out what works for me personally.

This is why I have stopped messaging people about my health and fitness goals. I get a lot of DMs, especially on Instagram, from the ones that I follow. I follow them because I like what they post. I don’t know if I am going to leave the group or stay. It’s mainly before and after pictures and nothing really helpful unless you do the program. I’m not looking for yet another program from yet another coach. I also don’t want to be yet another coach either with yet another program. It’s not why I went to college to get a degree in fitness. I generally want to help people. I think I have narrowed down who I want to work with. I want to work with people who either don’t want to go to the gym or are intimidated by the gym, or don’t know what to do at the gym. The gym is not for everybody and there are things that I don’t know how to use and I don’t always know what to do at the gym either. I feel more comfortable working out at home. I have a few things I can workout with. Maybe one day I’ll get another gym membership and learn how to use the machines there. I still want to get a barbell set for the house to use.

I’ll lose the weight and keep it off. I know I will. I’ll keep working on it. I’ll also help others lose the weight and keep it off. I do have my fitness group and page.

My bike has finally been fixed! My uncle came over yesterday and helped me reattach the chain. I ordered a bike rack for the back of my truck since my bike is too big to fit inside my truck. It’ll be here between Wednesday and Friday. I do have to relearn how to ride my bike since it’s been several years and I’m a few pounds heavier. I did find a bike challenge with the American Heart Association to bike 100 miles in the month of June. I have all of May to get comfortable and relearn how to ride my bike.
