Coaching Calls

Yesterday I talked about creating my own program, programs I have found online and prices. I didn’t talk about the coaching calls. This part is about coaching calls. With some of these programs I have been on coaching calls. They are mainly via Zoom. Some of them have been over the phone.

Whenever you find a program or challenge I do think it’s important to get to know the designer/creator and see if it’s a good fit. I have signed up for a few free challenges like the 2021 squat challenge in December 2020 and a  turkey couch to 5K in November 2024. Those 2 I signed up without a call. The 5K training had an app which I used in November. The leader wanted to have a 15 minute zoom session because I was asking questions thru the chat in the app that I wasn’t getting answers to. He had come up with generic macros and calories which is lower than what I normally eat. I did the zoom call and still left confused and with my questions unanswered. He set up the macros and calories without talking to me about my goals. I realize that it was a free challenge. I ended up canceling the next zoom call because it wasn’t worth my time. The squat challenge I did not have a call/meeting but it was a little more than the generic squat challenges that I have done in the past. I kept the momentum going in my Facebook group for a few years and then I wasn’t feeling it in 2023. I started it but ended up quitting because life got busy. I did not do the squat challenge in 2024 because life was busy. I don’t know if I will do a squat challenge in my group this year or not. We’ll see how life is at the end of the year.

There was one call that I had to reschedule once or twice because when I hopped on the first time I was very much unprepared for it. They had sent over a video that I forgot to watch. The video was a quiz that you were supposed to take beforehand to make the zoom meeting go quicker and smoother. I have won a partial scholarship to one and despite the program having aspects that I wanted the partial scholarship did not take off enough for me to be able to actually afford the program.

Sometimes we do need a program, challenge or coach to help us when we are trying to do something new. How do we go go about starting a new program or challenge? First is does it align with what you need and want? Second do you mesh well with the the coach? Last can you afford the program or challenge? Bonus does it sound like a scam or is it an actual program and what are the qualifications of the person doing the challenge? There are a ton of people online who have a program and claim to want to help you.
