Back to School

The kids went back to school on Monday. I've had a lot of people say that it’s quite early for the kids to be back in school. Yes I know. They normally don’t go back until mid August but somebody smarter than I am decided they were going to do year round. The kids still have 180 days of school but instead of having most of June, all of July and part of August off they’ll have 2 weeks off in October, 2 weeks off for Christmas like they usually do, and 2 weeks off in April for spring break. It is so much easier to find a summer camp during the summer months than it is in October. Most people can’t afford to take off 2 weeks in October. Nor can they afford 2 weeks off in April. There are people who don’t have the support system that will be able to watch the kids while they work.
Now the kids are back in school I’ll be back on my weekly goal of doing a 5K on the rowing machine. Starting next month Wyatt and I have at least 1 fun run a month. Next month is a 3K which is 1.86 miles. In September we have a 1 mile fun run at the same place. In October Wyatt has a 1 mile fun run at the park and then 2 weeks later we have a 5K at the stables that he had a fun run at. In November we have a 5K turkey trot on Thanksgiving. As of right now we don’t have any runs for December, January and February. We have a 5K run the runway at the airport in March. I have not signed either one of us up for the run at the end of April yet. I am waiting to see when the fishing rodeo at the canal is. This year is was at the end of April which is when Wyatt’s 1 mile fun run was. In my defense I did sign Wyatt up for the fun run months before I found out about the fishing rodeo at the canal. I keep looking on Facebook to see if they have a date set up yet.
While the kids are in school I am going to be doing one 5K a week on the rowing machine. I am going to do an upper body workout and a lower body workout and some yoga for stretching and flexibility. I have a portable DVD player for my computer so I can use DVD’s again to exercise. I just have to figure it out. I have the app that it says to download. I just don’t know how to play videos yet. Both of the portable DVD players I had broke after I let the kids use them. I’m so bummed about it because the one portable DVD player was purple. I’ll get another one like that one at some point in the near future. When I do have the fun runs I am going to be doing an extra 5K on the rowing machine the week before the runs. I’m considering doing 2 weeks of more than 1 5K on the rowing machine. My biggest goal for the runs is to have fun with Wyatt and cross the finish line. I am excited and nervous about the in person runs. I’ve never done them before. I think the 3K and the 1 mile run are a good start and I can get a feel for how they go and how I do. I also want to improve my time as well with each 5K. I’ll be looking for ones for December, January and February for one or both of us to do.
Mom is on vacation visiting my sister and niece. She left yesterday. Today I did some meal prep for lunch and dinner. I was able to get 2 lunches and 3 dinners. For lunch I made salmon with black rice and mixed veggies. For dinner I made beef bites with sauteed yellow potatoes and peas. I ate one of the lunches and one of the dinners today. I used the spices that I had gotten from Pampered Chef. The potatoes came from the roadside farmers market I went to on Tuesday. It’ll be nice not to have to cook other than breakfast. I’ve been eating egg and cheese wraps for breakfast and they definitely keep me full for a few hours. I’ll be eating an egg and cheese wrap for breakfast before the runs.
